Placemaking for Civic Imagination Programme

Help us to broaden Placemaking for Civic Imagination work in south-east Europe

Placemaking helps to pave the way for a paradigm shift in the role of citizens in deciding and designing how their community assets are developed and managed. The process of placemaking also helps to build collective civic imagination capacity – essential to creating wider demand for a better future. Given the broad value of public placemaking processes, we encourage all communities to work on this area as part of their overall radical change process.

Read more here on our thinking and approach to Placemaking for Civic Imagination.

Our Placemaking for Civic Imagination Programme is designed to:

  1. Develop the capacity of community-leaders, organisations and groups of local citizens to design and manage high-value placemaking processes.
  2. Ensure that placemaking processes are used widely to help to experiment and develop civic imagination and community conversations about a desired future
  3. Create impactful and practical community placemaking projects that deliver tangible social and ecological outcomes and help the local community to feel change and progress – building confidence for other actions.
  4. Demonstrate how placemaking processes can help citizens to make their voices heard on wider community development questions.

We have secured a first tranche of funding for this work from the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values programme of the European Union – organised through the Placemaking for Citizen-led Missions in SE Europe (PLACE) project. Under this project we will be designing and delivering a series of local placemaking processes in Slovenia, Croatia and Sicily; along with a  international learning and capacity building events. We are looking to build on this initial investment so we can further scale this work.

We are seeking investment so that we can significantly expand the breadth and depth of our Placemaking for Civic Imagination Programme.
